Pointscore 5 on May 5 was one for the books. It was the first time in recent memory that the club had to abandon a pointscore mid-event due to weather conditions. The day started with a rainy morning and decent waves at Coalcliff, but the situation quickly escalated. The rain intensified, infiltrating the tents and soaking all the gear. The wind picked up one of the gazebos and blew it away, destroying it in the process. Despite our best efforts, the event had to be abandoned.
Junior Division Success
Despite the challenges, we managed to complete the junior divisions. Congratulations to Roxanne Stancourt for winning the junior girls‘ division, Jesse Fitzgibbons for taking the U14s, and Noah Kornek for claiming victory in the U12s. A massive shout-out and thank you to Coalcliff Surf Club, Rob Deacon, and Damian Lloyd for their assistance in moving our gear when the weather took a turn for the worse.
Illawarra Junior Surfing Titles Triumphs
On May 11, all of the junior surfers in our area competed in the Illawarra Junior Surfing Titles. We extend big congratulations to our place-getters:
1st U18s Girls – Shyla Short
3rd U18s Girls – Macey Jolley
2nd U18s Boys – Mitch Burroughs
1st U12s Boys – Noah Kornek
3rd U12s Boys – Saxon King
Sam Kornek took 4th in the U14 boys‘ final. Ashton Mekisic reached the U16 boys‘ semi-finals, while Oliver Keed and Jesse Fitzgibbon made it to the U16 boys‘ quarter-finals. Special mention to Noah Kornek, who at just 10 years old, scored a perfect 10 in the semis!
Thanks to this year’s hosts, Sandon Point Boardriders, who did a great job managing the event despite the bad weather.
