Los Angeles 2028: Proposal for Para-climbing at the Paralympic Games

Los Angeles, set to host the 2028 Paralympic Games, has proposed adding Para-climbing to the event lineup, marking its potential debut on the global Paralympic stage.

The Proposal and Its Significance

The organizers of the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics have formally requested the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to include Para-climbing in the competition program. This proposal is scheduled for a vote by the IPC governing board on June 26.

Statements from Los Angeles 2028 Officials

Janet Evans, the chief athlete officer for Los Angeles 2028, expressed gratitude to the IPC for considering the addition of Para-climbing. She highlighted that this move would provide more athletes with the opportunity to compete at the highest level, aligning with LA28’s commitment to advancing the Paralympic movement.

Para-surfing Exclusion from the Programme

In a related decision, Para-surfing will not be included in the 2028 Paralympic programme. Fernando Aguerre, president of the International Surfing Association, expressed disappointment but remained optimistic about future opportunities.

The potential inclusion of Para-climbing at Los Angeles 2028 represents a significant step forward in promoting adaptive sports on the global stage, offering athletes new avenues to showcase their talents and inspiring inclusivity within the Paralympic community.
