Sky Diver's Phone Plummets from 12,000 Feet, Miraculously Survives Dive

Witnessing a jaw-dropping moment in the sky, experienced sky diver Frank Carballido captured footage of his phone plummeting thousands of feet during a dive in Zephyrhills, Florida. The heart-stopping video shows the phone’s dramatic fall from over 12,000 feet to the ground, leaving spectators amazed and incredulous at its survival.

Carballido, a seasoned sky diver with three years of experience, accidentally dropped his phone while in mid-air. “I forgot to zip up the pocket I keep my phone in,” he explained to Newsweek. “We take our phones in case we land off and need to be picked up.”

Upon landing, Carballido realized he couldn’t remember the password for his Samsung device, hindering his ability to track it using the Google Find My Device feature. However, moments later, to his astonishment, he found the Samsung Galaxy S24 completely intact and undamaged.

“It’s incredible,” Carballido expressed in disbelief. “I’ve heard of this commonly happening to other sky divers, but experiencing it firsthand is surreal.”

A phone dropped from such a height would free-fall until reaching its terminal velocity of around 120-150 miles per hour, then descend at a constant speed until nearing the ground.

The fact that the phone remained usable after the fall seemed almost unbelievable, especially considering the device’s minimal protection.

“The case is a cheap $15 Amazon case that I honestly don’t recommend,” Carballido admitted. However, it managed to keep the phone intact after its remarkable descent.

Sharing his skydiving adventures frequently on social media, Carballido posted the video on his Instagram page, where it garnered 3.5 million views. In the comments section, viewers shared their astonishment and posed questions about the incident.

Some expressed concern, like bad.b.studios, who remarked, “I worry about my phone falling out of my pocket while walking, and you’re jumping out of planes with it in a non-zipped pocket?!”

Others shared similar experiences, with andrew__pelayo recounting a phone drop of their own: “Consider yourself lucky finding it that fast. Mine landed in a big bush on silent mode, and although the bush saved it, it made it hell to find.”

While some viewers joked about the phone’s resilience, others raised concerns about potential hazards, prompting Carballido to reassure them about the safety protocols in skydiving.

Despite the heart-stopping moment, Carballido’s miraculous retrieval of his phone serves as a testament to both the durability of modern technology and the extraordinary experiences of skydiving.
