Beaking Records at Northern Athletics Track & Field Championships
Regan Corrin, representing the Isle of Man, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Manx athlete to surpass the seven-metre mark in long jump competition. This remarkable feat occurred at the Northern Athletics Track & Field Championships in Middlesbrough on June 8.
Setting a New Manx Record
Corrin secured the silver medal in the men’s Under-20 final with an impressive jump of 7.07 meters. This achievement not only earned him recognition on the podium but also marked the second time he surpassed the previous Isle of Man record. The previous record of 6.92 meters, set by Phil Riley at the 2007 Island Games in Rhodes, was first surpassed by Corrin earlier with a jump of 6.94 meters in January.
Competition Highlights
In the recent competition, Corrin faced tough competition but managed to secure his place among the top athletes. He was narrowly edged out by Miguel Gaisah from Sale Harriers, who jumped 7.16 meters to claim the gold medal. Ian Dimitri Mahop of Leeds City AC secured the third position with a jump of 6.58 meters.
Year of Achievements
Apart from his groundbreaking long jump achievements, Regan Corrin has had a successful year in athletics. He clinched the gold medal in men’s high jump at the 2023 Island Games held in Guernsey in July, followed by winning the England Under-17 high jump title in Birmingham a month later.
Regan Corrin’s journey exemplifies dedication, skill, and a drive for excellence in athletics, making him a trailblazer for Manx athletes in the field of long jump. His record-breaking performances continue to inspire athletes on the Isle of Man and beyond.
