Record-Breaking Turnout at ASICS Runaway Noosa Marathon

On Saturday, more than 7,000 runners flocked to Noosa for the sold-out ASICS Runaway Noosa Marathon, marking a record field for the event’s fifth edition. The marathon featured multiple race options, including 5km, 10km, half marathon, and marathon distances, all set on a flat and fast course with the start and finish lines just steps away from the iconic Hastings Street.

Marathon Highlights

Men’s Marathon

Andrew Dey clinched victory in the men’s marathon, crossing the finish line in 2 hours, 31 minutes, and 10 seconds, nearly four minutes ahead of second-place Craig Davis. Dean Edmonds secured third place. Dey praised the enthusiastic crowd, saying, “There was really good support, the whole way up and down. It was nice to have the laps: you get a lot of repeat cheering. I had the family out there cheering as well.”

Women’s Marathon

Imy Briscoe took the women’s marathon title with a time of 2 hours, 51 minutes, and 53 seconds. Brooke Williams finished second, and Olivia Beck completed the podium in third. Briscoe, reflecting on her performance, said, “Last year I ran a marathon and got cramp in the last seven km, so I was keen to pace it well and I think I got quicker as the race went on. It was an amazing atmosphere. I was worried mentally about the multi-lap that it would be hard but every time you did a lap there were huge crowd cheers. I don’t think I’ve won a race ever, well since I was a child, so to win my first race as an adult is an amazing feeling.”

Additional Race Winners

Half Marathon

  • Men’s Half Marathon: Local runner Alex Harvey claimed victory.
  • Women’s Half Marathon: Ella McCartney secured first place.

10km Race

  • Men’s 10km: Josh Shanahan emerged victorious.
  • Women’s 10km: Loretta Melcer took the top spot.

5km Race

  • Men’s 5km: Brayden Everett won the race.
  • Women’s 5km: Mia Caple finished first.

Swim Noosa

The excitement continued on Sunday with over 900 swimmers participating in Swim Noosa at Noosa Main Beach. Participants competed in 500m, 1km, 2km, and 3.8km swims.

Notable Performances

  • Women’s 3.8km and 2km: Olympics-bound Chelsea Gubecka triumphed in both events. Reflecting on her long history with Noosa, she said, “I think I was seven or eight years old and remember having to sign a waiver to do a 2km swim. I’ve been coming back here since then. I’m 25 now, I feel like a bit of a veteran, I absolutely love Noosa and my partner, and I will get married here next year, I’m really looking forward to that.”
  • Men’s 3.8km and 2km: Kilian Carrel also achieved repeat victories in both distances.
  • 1km Swim: Connor McClennan and Jackie Ellul won the men’s and women’s events respectively.
  • 500m Swim: Darcy Higgins and Caitlyn McClennan claimed victory in the men’s and women’s races.

Community Engagement

The ASICS Runaway Noosa Marathon, supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland, exemplified community spirit and athletic excellence. With record participation and enthusiastic crowds, the event highlighted Noosa as a premier destination for sports and adventure activities.
