Renowned for its high-end dining scene, sophisticated hotels, and world-renowned higher education institutions, Boston offers a particularly idyllic escape on the eastern edge of New England. But this historic city is no stranger to high-speed thrills as well. This June, Boston is set to welcome the return of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, an annual event that unites 24 individuals in an effort to achieve the maximum amount of points and earn the coveted King Kahekili Trophy. While Boston shares the honor with other global cities, it stands out as the sole host in the United States, providing visitors with a chance to witness this unique event right on New England soil.
After a successful debut in Athens, Greece, on May 26th, Boston residents and visitors can head to the Seaport’s Institute of Contemporary Art to celebrate the American leg of the event. The festivities begin on June 7th with a practice round and continue into the 8th with the main event. This esteemed competition features 24 participants—12 male divers and 12 female divers—taking the plunge over two days. The diving platforms are set at 27 meters for males and 21 meters for females, with all participants reaching incredible speeds, with past divers clocking in at over fifty miles per hour.

On both the 7th and 8th, guests can reserve their spectator spots starting at 12:00 PM to watch an hour of practice dives, with the official festivities beginning at 1:00 PM. The competition kicks off with the female divers, who will dive between 1:37 PM and 2:20 PM, followed by the male divers from 2:20 PM to 2:50 PM. Each day culminates in a dedicated award ceremony. For those who can’t get enough of the excitement, future events are scheduled in cities like Oslo, Montreal, and Antalya.
After catching the competition, the Seaport District offers the perfect setting for a post-event meal. Just a few steps away from the Institute of Contemporary Art, Woods Hill Pier 4 has earned acclaim for its fresh, locally-sourced produce and meats, sourced directly from the restaurant’s New Hampshire farm. Highlights include the lobster-loaded squid ink casarecce and grass-fed lamb shoulder, while the sunflower risotto, featuring sweet potato and oyster mushroom, is a favorite for plant-forward diners.
Further east, Legal Sea Foods’ Harborside location is a must-visit for seafood enthusiasts eager to sample Boston’s iconic dishes. The menu boasts classic New England fare like lobster rolls, clam chowder, and crab cakes, making it a perfect spot to enjoy the local culinary scene.
The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series not only brings high-speed thrills to Boston but also offers an opportunity to explore the city’s vibrant Seaport District. Whether you’re a fan of extreme sports or just looking for a unique event to experience, Boston’s hosting of this global competition promises excitement and adventure for all.
