ANCASTER, Ontario – Last year, it was Andie Taylor’s keen observation that sparked her husband Nick’s historic RBC Canadian Open victory. This year, the roles are reversed as Nick prepares to defend his title. Andie took to the skies in a thrilling tandem skydive from 12,000 feet, landing on an adjacent fairway at Hamilton Golf and Country Club.
The skydive, a tournament tradition in partnership with the Canadian military, was a shared experience for the Taylors amidst a momentous week. Nick, the first Canadian winner of the RBC Canadian Open since 1954, looks to repeat his magical run. His dramatic 72-foot eagle putt victory in a four-hole playoff against Tommy Fleetwood captured the hearts of a nation.
A Wife’s Insight Ignites a Champion
Last year’s win might not have unfolded without Andie’s sharp eye. Watching Nick struggle in the opening round at Oakdale Golf & Country Club, she noticed his tense demeanor. A phone call that evening proved pivotal.
“It just looks like you’ve not having fun,” Andie told Nick, who recounted the conversation. “You and (caddie) Dave (Markle) go be yourselves tomorrow; cut it out essentially.”
Nick acknowledged his frustration but admitted his game was strong. “It was a mindset change,” he said, “really having nothing to lose starting Friday.”
Taking his wife’s words to heart, Nick transformed. He closed with blistering rounds, securing a playoff spot and etching his name in Canadian golf history.
Eyes on the Prize: Back-to-Back Glory?
Nick’s victory at the WM Phoenix Open this year solidified his reputation as a clutch performer. Ranked 32nd in the FedExCup standings, he’s poised to represent Canada at the Olympics and Presidents Cup.
But can he achieve the unthinkable: back-to-back RBC Canadian Open titles? As Andie soars with the Canadian Forces Parachute Team, the sky truly seems the limit for Nick Taylor.
